Infant and Child First Aid for Parents

Practical first aid training for parents, grandparents, and all adults caring for infants.

Let knowledge guide you, not panic!

As a parent, one of the most frightening situations is when your child gets injured, chokes, or suddenly becomes unwell. In such cases, beyond good intentions, immediate, professional help is needed. The goal of our course is to ensure that you don’t panic, but instead know confidently what to do until emergency services arrive.

Infant and Child First Aid for Parents

Why is infant first aid special?

Infants are not “small adults.” They react differently to injuries, febrile seizures, or choking. Our training is based on the latest international resuscitation guidelines, but we present the knowledge in a clear, practical way tailored for parents.

Main topics of the course

Patient assessment and condition evaluation in infants

Participants will learn how to safely approach a child in trouble, how to check responsiveness, breathing, and signs of circulation, and how to decide whether immediate intervention or calling emergency services is required.

This includes:

  • safe scene assessment,
  • checking responsiveness,
  • checking breathing,
  • recognizing serious conditions,
  • proper procedure for calling emergency services,
  • managing parental panic with a practical approach.

Febrile seizure

Febrile seizures are an extremely frightening experience for many parents. During the training, we clearly explain what a febrile seizure is, what to do during a seizure, and which mistakes must be avoided at all costs.

Participants will learn:

  • how to protect the child from injury,
  • why you must not restrain them,
  • why nothing should be placed in their mouth,
  • when to call an ambulance,
  • what to watch for after the seizure.

Injuries and bleeding

Common childhood accidents are also covered during the course. The goal is to prepare parents not only for severe life-threatening conditions, but also for frequent home, playground, or institutional injuries.

Main topics:

  • treatment of minor and major bleeding,
  • basics of wound care,
  • nosebleeds,
  • initial treatment of burns,
  • warning signs in case of head injury,
  • when home observation is sufficient and when medical examination is necessary.

Allergy

An increasing number of children are affected by allergies, so recognizing severe allergic reactions is especially important. During the training, we discuss which symptoms indicate a severe allergic reaction, when to call for immediate help, and how the use of an adrenaline auto-injector fits into the emergency care process.

Unconsciousness

The course also specifically covers what to do if a child is unresponsive but still breathing. Participants will learn when it is necessary to ensure an open airway, how to perform it safely, and in which cases this is not the appropriate form of care.

The goal is for parents to understand that in cases of unconsciousness, the most important priorities are maintaining an open airway, continuous monitoring of breathing, and calling emergency services.

Choking, suffocation, airway obstruction

This is one of the most important and frequently requested topics for parents. Choking in infants and children can quickly become a serious condition, so it is essential for parents to know when and how to intervene.

During the training, we discuss and practice:

  • how to recognize partial and severe airway obstruction,
  • what to do if the child can cough,
  • what to do if the child cannot make sounds or breathe,
  • care for infants in case of choking,
  • care for older children in case of choking,
  • when to call an ambulance,
  • what to do if the child becomes unconscious.

Resuscitation

One of the most important parts of the course is the demonstration and practice of infant and child resuscitation basics. Participants will learn how to recognize a resuscitation situation, when to call for help, and how to begin basic life support.

During the training, the following will be covered:

  • assessment of vital signs and breathing,
  • proper timing of emergency calls,
  • the role of initial rescue breaths in children,
  • correct placement, rhythm, and depth of chest compressions,
  • differences between infant and child resuscitation,
  • basics of AED use in children.

The goal is not to turn parents into healthcare professionals, but to ensure they can recognize emergencies, dare to call for help, and are able to start life-saving actions.

Infant and Child First Aid for Parents

Why is it worth taking the course?

Most parents want to help, but in emergencies, uncertainty, fear, and lack of information often hold them back. Our course helps participants not only hear about first aid in theory, but truly understand and practice the most important steps.

After the training, participants will more confidently recognize situations that require immediate action, know when to call an ambulance, how to assess a child, what to do in cases of choking, unconsciousness, seizures, or serious injuries, and how to begin infant or child resuscitation.

Practice-oriented training, made clear

During the training, we use clear explanations, real-life examples, and a practical approach. The goal is for participants to recognize emergencies, have the confidence to call for help, and be able to take the first life-saving steps.

On-site training for groups

Upon request, the course can also be held for closed groups, institutions, parent communities, nurseries, kindergartens, or family events.

With at least 10 participants, the training can also be organized at your location, with nationwide availability. For larger groups, request a custom institutional offer.

The training can be an especially good choice for:

  • parent communities,
  • mom-and-baby groups,
  • nurseries and kindergartens,
  • family days,
  • organizations working with children,
  • as part of family-friendly workplace programs.
